Charter fishing is a summer job, so when those snowflakes start to fall and the boat is winterized, I make fishing lures. Be aware that most of my custom work like mold building takes place during the winter months (Oct. - May).
Soft Plastics
Plastics are gaining popularity here in B.C., and Big Splash Lures will be doing research and design to bring you the best in supple, hand poured baits. Most plastics can be ordered in custom colors, with or without salt added. Most plastics are custom poured when ordered, so you can decide on special features.
Do you have a favorite bait you need a bunch of, but can't get anymore? Have an idea for a great lure that just is not available? I can build molds for most baits - real or imagined!
Plaster molds for Soft Plastics
I make top quality plaster molds for pouring plastics, They are coated with a durable bar top epoxy finish for a strong, smooth coating that won't cling to plastic baits. Email me if you would like to have a custom mold made. I can re-produce your favorite bait, or I can start from scratch and build a bait from your ideas. The molds pictured are custom designed from scratch.

Crawdads
This 4" crayfish or crawdad is one of the most realistic baits of this type. It's poured in a handmade mold and is hot salted so fish bite and don't let go. This is a large bait, intended to interest trophy size lunkers, and will require a large, wide gap hook. Comes in a 5 pack @ $4.99.

ICE FISHING
One winter, my fishing partner decided to use yellow plastic grubs with no bait as his ice fishing lure for the entire season. I used fresh, home-cured roe. A tally at the end of the year showed we caught the same number of fish durring the winter season. I was surprised by this outcome, as I would have bet that roe would far out-catch a simple plastic grub. Give hand poured plastics a try, you may be surprised what they can do for you! Order a mold and save money by pouring your own.
Rocket grubs and tiny tube baits have been fishing well under the ice this year.
 Rocket Grubs- These hot little grubs feature a sparkle tail. Try these under the ice, or on steelhead in clear water. The tail undulates in the water, trout and crappies can't resist! Use tiny jigs (available) and light line to get the best action with this bait. $2.00 for 3 pack w/ jig.
 Spaghetti Grubs- Inspired by tube bait action, but with a versatile solid body. Spaghetti grubs can be used on a jig, as a spinnerbait trailer, or can easily be nose hooked for drop shotting. Trout, salmon and steelhead. $2.00 for 3 pack w/ jig.
 Roe Clusters - Soft, supple plastic cluster eggs. Various shades of greens, and reds, oranges and pinks. Three sizes from 1/2 inch, 5/8 and 7/8 inch. Great for river fishing, trout, steelhead, dollies and salmon. Available in small packs with assorted sizes and colors. 8 to a pack @ $2.00.  6" Momba Grub - NOW IN 4" too!!! Huge rippling plastic sickle tail has sensational action.  BIG RIP- Big Rip is 7" long, as shown in the image, and has an unbelievable action in that long snakey tail. RIP has a slimmer profile than the Momba Grub. Use for bass, pike, musky, halibut, rockfish, or you name it. $2.00 for a 3 pack. Larger quantities can be ordered scented.
 Slim Swim is a great, full round minnow type bait with an awesome swimmer tail. This bait is used on a jig head, or with plastic bait rigs. Mounted on a 1/2 oz. lead jig head with a 4/0 2x hook (available), this is a great lure for agressive species like bull trout, char, brookies and smallmouth bass. Use this lure when the salmon smolts are migrating from the rivers. 3 pack for $2.00. Coho Bucktails Tandem or single hooks. Quality bucktail tied on x-strong hooks. Tied to your specs, $5.00 ea/ minimum of five per order. These big flies can be cast to feeding fish, or trolled either alone or with a flasher, flat line, or from a downrigger. Great for coho, rainbows and dollies.
Yarn Ties
Some of the biggest fish pictured on this site are caught on the simplest handmade lures, yarn ties. This is the most common rig on most B.C salmon streams. In the smaller sizes this rig works great for rainbows and whitefish as well.
When the knot is complete you can push back on the leader and a small loop will form on the back of the shank, behind the eye. A short piece of colorful 'salmon' yarn is placed under the loop and the leader is pulled tight. The conditions of the day will determine the color and size of the yarn. In muddy water use larger, brighter yarn ties. Use smaller less colorfull sizes as the water clears. Where it is legal to use bait, a piece of roe can also be placed in the loop.

JIGGING SPOONS
Jigging spoons (Slab shad style) are available in several sizes and types. Can be ordered with a quality single hook, or trebles, unpainted, or finished. Molds for making your own jigs are available on a custom order basis.

 5/8 oz LEAD SPOONS, Rainbow Trout (out of stock, sorry) pattern. Also available in black and grey, chartreuse and white 50/50 patterns and polar bear (white). These little spoons are just the thing for casting to baitfish activity. I keep a rod rigged with this heavy spoon and cast to the area where minnows are breaking the suface when larger preditory fish force them to the surface. 3 @ $10.00.
